Opening Ceremony of Bengali Club Drama Competition

The 59th Prakash Chandra Ghosh Memorial All India Full-Length Bengali Drama Competition is being held from 20th December, 2025 to 8th January, 2026 at the Bengali Club & Youngmen’s Association, Lucknow. The opening ceremony commenced at 7:30 PM. This is the only full-length Bengali Drama Competition in India, with the participation of 16 theatre teams from leading groups of Delhi, Ahmedabad, and West Bengal.
The inaugural evening showcased Bengal’s traditional cultural art form Putul Nach – “Thakumar Jhuli”, presented by the Baruipur Gangaradi Puppet Theatre Group, under the direction of Dr. Pradip Sardar (Kolkata). A Shruti Natak was also presented by Indrajeet Mitra and Rupa Mukherjee of Lucknow, which was highly appreciated by the audience.
The Festival was inaugurated by Sri Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh, as the Chief Guest.

The 59th All India Prakash Chandra Ghosh Memorial Full-length Bengali Drama Competition, organized by the Bengali Club and Youth Committee, Lucknow, concluded.
Best Production Play "Mulakkaram" Barrackpore Chakkanathalia Prayas Natya Gosthi, West Bengal, awarded Best Production for Play "Mulakkaram" Suhan Basu, Delhi, won Best Actor and Moushumi Sarkar, Calcutta, won Best Actress.
The 59th All India Prakash Chandra Ghosh Memorial Full Length Bengali Drama Competition, organized by the Bengali Club and Youth Committee, Lucknow, was successfully staged from December 20, 2025, to January 7, 2026, with the results and prize distribution concluded on January 8, 2026. This full-length Bengali drama competition has been organized by the Bengali Club of Lucknow, the only one in India, for several decades. Top theatre organizations from Delhi, Kolkata, 24 Parganas, Ahmedabad, and other states participated.
According to the competition results, the play Mulakkaram won Best Production along with Best Director - Ranadhir Rai, Best Actress - Mousumi Sarkar, Best Supporting Actor - Sumit Saha, and Second Best Supporting Actress - Rashmi Bose.
In the same sequence, Delhi's team, Japonchitra, received the Second Best Performance award for the play "Paap."
The team received the Second Best Production award for their presentation of the play "Paap," written by Samaresh Basu, along with the Sujan Basu Award for Second Best Director and Best Actor. Similarly, Calcutta's theatre group, Harinavi Drishya Kaavya Samiti, won third place for their play "Sampatti Samarpan," and Delhi's theatre group, Room Theatre, won fourth place for their play "Nishkriti," written by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
Fifth place went to Delhi's team, Dakshinayan Natya Sanstha, for their play "Paper dot com” Additional Chief Secretary Amit Kumar Ghosh, IAS, was the chief guest at the awards ceremony, where the prizes were distributed. Bengali Club President Arun Kumar Banerjee, Vice Presidents Amit Ghosh, Mrs. Enakshi Sinha, Off. General Secretary Trisha Sinha, Treasurer Deb Bhattacharya, Cultural Secretary Kaushik Bose, Ashish Bhattacharya, Tapan Samantho, and guest of honour Dr. Gautam Palit, Sri S. Dutta, Project Director of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation were present on stage and honored the winners with awards.
Ms. Mukul Bandhopadhyay and Utpal Kumar from Calcutta, and Indrajit Mitra and Prabir Kumar Dey from Lucknow was the judges for this competition.
Ms. Enakshi Sinha conducted the program.
President Arun Kumar Banerjee thanked all the Guests and spectators, greeting them and expressing his gratitude for success of the Competition.

We are delighted to announce that this year’s Drama Competition will commence on 20th December 2025 from 7:30pm. To make the opening day special, we have planned a unique presentation of Bengal’s traditional cultural art form “Putul Nach” narrated as “Thakumar Jhuli”, a treat that will be enjoyed by everyone, from children to Thakuma and Didima. This will be a first of its kind show in Lucknow. The Putul Nach will be presented by Baruipur Gangaradi Puppet Theatre group under the direction of Dr. Pradip Sardar and his team from Kolkata. “Shruti Natak” performance by Sri Indrajeet Mitra & Smt. Rupa Mukherjee will also be presented on the opening day. The competition will begin on 21st December 2025. This year, all the top winning teams of yesteryear’s will be participating and we are confident that theatre lovers of Lucknow will witness some truly outstanding productions. Daily Drama will start from 7.30 PM and this year maximum time of performance is 2 hours with 10 Minutes interval. Entry Free. বেঙ্গলী ক্লাবের প্রাণপ্রিয় সাধারণ সচিব শঙ্কর ভৌমিকের আকস্মিক প্রয়াণ আমাদের শোকস্তব্ধ করেছে।প্রতিটি নাটক, নাট্যদল, নাট্যকর্মী সর্বোপরি নাট্যোৎসব ছিল তাঁর বাঁচার প্রেরণা। আগামী ৫৯তম সর্বভারতীয় প্রকাশ চন্দ্র ঘোষ স্মারক পূর্ণাঙ্গ বাংলা নাট্য প্রতিযোগিতা শঙ্কর ভৌমিকের স্মৃতির উদ্দেশে নিবেদিত হবে। নাট্যোৎসবে তিনি সশরীরে থাকবেন না ভেবে আমরা অশ্রুসিক্ত।
